Carpet Cleaning Methods

Today there are three recognised methods used to clean carpets. Type and soiling of carpet will determine choice of one of the following methods -

  1. Carpet Steam Cleaning (Hot Water Extraction)

Dudley's Corporation's fleet of truck-mounted hot water extraction equipment has the most technologically advanced HWE system available. With temperatures reaching over 240 degrees under 3000 lbs of pressure, our equipment can extract problems beyond the capabilities of other systems and our knowledge in chemistry and environmental sciences further ensures a safe and healthy environment.
    High Performance Portable Extraction (HPPE)
Factors such as security, access or location can limit access for use of truck-mounted equipment. Dudley's Corporation has the technology to offer clients services using the most powerful High Performance Portable Extraction (HPPE) equipment available. Rotary extraction heads with the proper chemistry ensure our portable equipment outperforms other portable options.
  2. Dry Fusion Cleaning / Bonnet Cleaning (Dry Cleaning)

The patented Dry Fusion system is the ultimate method of removing soil safely. It is a pH neutral (pH 7.2) process that combines the best features of hot water extraction (hot solution, 'Shot of steam') and the best features of Dry Cleaning (low moisture, mechanical agitation) with a hot cleaning rotary pad system that constantly heats fibres to deep clean the carpet and remove deep-set stains while fusing a fluoro-based stain protector and blocking resin to every fibre as it is heat dried. Whether to commercial or domestic application, Dry Fusion provides the safest, longest lasting clean and leaves carpet resistant to dust, dirt and grime and because it is patented, Dry Fusion is the only system in the world that can clean carpets this way.

During Dry Fusion cleaning, carpets are treated with Bactoshield Protection. While Bactoshield has a powerful cleaning action that deals effectively with traffic lane yellowing on carpet tiles and olefin fibre, difficult stains such as oily liniments, medicines, crayons and make-up and removes resistant odours such as urine, vomit, body odour, ammonia and pet smells, it is safe to use. During cleaning, Bactoshield bonds a water-proof, antimicrobial protective coating containing a 'Triclosan' shield, to each fibre. Triclosan is a safe, non-toxic chemical that has been used in toothpaste and medical products for years. It helps prevent the growth of hundreds of bacterial strains, moulds, fungi and tinea as well as problem bacteria like E-Coli and Staph Aureas. This is the most effective product on the market that can provide cleaning and be equal in antimicrobial effectiveness. Bactoshield provides the risk management that our customers need for public liability.

Features of the Dry Fusion/Bonnet Cleaning method are:

    • Quiet operation - unlike most other carpet cleaning systems, Dry Fusion is a whisper quiet system. So it is particularly advantageous in hospitals and commercial buildings. Our commercial clients value that carpets can be cleaned during office hours.
    • Quick drying - carpet is bone dry in less than half an hour
    • Longer lasting results - Two unique factors work to keep Dry Fusion cleaned carpet stain-free and maintain that just cleaned look, longer. A unique additive, fluorocarbon resin, places an invisible protective shield over every fibre during the cleaning process. It helps prevent dry grit, mud, dust and spills - even oily spills, lodging within the carpet. Dry Fusion cleaned fibres are effectively 'non-stick', so vacuuming is easier and more effective. The fluorocarbon resin helps block dye sites in the fibre that normally allow food spills and beverages to become ugly stains. When re-cleaned with Dry Fusion using the 'shot of steam', most stains are removed without spotting or agitation.
    • Low-irritant scent - The natural orange and vanilla extracts used as odour neutralisers have been selected for their low-irritant qualities so ideal for those with sensitive noses or bronchial problems.
    • Environmental Safety - All emulsifiers and greasy soil solubisers are highly biodegradable and degrade rapidly to meet Australian and O.E.C.D standards.

Dry Fusion / Bonnet Cleaning is especially suited to the following carpet applications:

    • Carpet Tiles - carpet tiles are susceptible to particular problems such as water staining on tile edges from wick-back caused by excessive water and aggressive cleaning, difficult to remove yellowing in traffic lanes due to detergent residues, 'black stain' and delimitation caused by some solvent-based extraction pre-sprays that can also dissolve the binder holding the fibres. These problems are avoided and best results are achieved on carpet tiles with the Dry Fusion method.
    • New Generation Fibres - carpets made from new generation fibres, particularly Olefin (polypropylene) fibres, are extremely sensitive to sticky detergent residues that attract oily and walked-in soil. Stain treated nylon is particularly sensitive to high pH cleaners which degrade the life of the coating. The Dry Fusion method is ideal for application to new generation fibres as it does not rely on a high pH chemicals or wetting of the carpet by water flushing.
    • Wool Fibre - wool is a very porous fibre that benefits greatly from the application of Dry Fusion stain protection. Tufted carpets are most predominant and provide the ultimate test for the Dry Fusion process. With no wick-back of stains you can guarantee a brightness, cleanness and softness not available through any other process.

Please note: Certain food colours used in Indian and Asian foods and soft drink, actually dye the carpet and cannot be removed with Dry Fusion Activator.

Dry Fusion, with its unique features, is particularly beneficial for the following areas:

    • Commercial premises
    • Hospitals and healthcare facilities
    • Sporting facilities
    • Day care / child care centres
    • Residential facilities
    • Pubs and clubs
    • Homes
  3. Encapsulation Cleaning
Dudley's Corporation introduced Encapsulation Cleaning to ensure we offer our customers a full range of leading technologies in carpet cleaning. Encapsulation is a perfect choice for customers with high-traffic or large commercial settings with the need to clean their carpeted surfaces in an on-going manner. While the results are exceptional, the costs are typically lower than those of other methods.
Of the two main types of soil to which carpets are exposed, Dry Soil and Sticky Soil, routine vacuuming will remove most dry soil however sticky and oily soils adhere to and hold the dry soils in the carpet no matter what size vacuum is used. Encapsulation technology effectively and efficiently removes sticky soils and stains adhering to carpet by forming dry microscopic crystals that surround sticky soils with an acrylic-polymer barrier that prevents them from reattaching to fibres while being drawn to the surface using controlled evaporation. The encapsulated soil particles are dislodged and released from the carpet fibre and easily extracted as a dry particulate by normal routine vacuuming. This immediately allows the carpet to return to its original orientation so that it looks its best, not just after cleaning, but between cleanings. Approved by all major carpet mills, encapsulation cleaning is ideally suited to commercial grade olefin, polyester and nylon surfaces.
Encapsulation cleaning is very safe to use. The only ingredient even required to be listed on an MSDS sheet is Isopropyl Alcohol which evaporates away. It is PH neutral in diluted form. It is safe to use on synthetic fibres, most wool and any other fibre that can be exposed to water.

There are five benefits to incorporating a fluoro-chemical protector during encapsulation:

    1. Encapsulating crystal releases more easily from the fibre
    2. Surface tension of the detergent is lowered, increasing wetting and cleaning ability
    3. Anti-wicking properties are greatly improved
    4. Carpet will be more soil-resistant
    5. The tea tree extract leaves a light, fresh, clean healthy scent
